The intricacies and peculiarities of the patent system make it all the more time consuming (and therefore expensive) to train patent support personnel, such as legal secretaries, paralegals and docket clerks.  This course reduces that training burden and expense by teaching the fundamentals of patent law that must be understood by such personnel in order to provide efficient and effective support to the attorneys or agents they serve. The complicated area of patent law is presented in an easy-to-understand format by PRG’s Academic Director, Paul Gardner.   Among the subjects taught in this six-hour Video on Demand course are:

  • The component parts of a patent application and their functions in satisfying the requirements underlying United States patent law and Patent Office practice.
  • Prior art events, such as patents and other publications, public use and on sale activities; the one-year grace period; experimental use; and the date of invention under U.S. patent law.
  • The potential benefits of and the requirements for continuing applications and foreign priority.
  • The examination process, Office actions and replies, and RCE’s.

These and other important aspects of patent practice are presented in an easy-to-understand format that will – at once – conserve the patent professional’s valuable time and make his or her support staff all the more competent and self-sufficient.
