Janis K. Fraser is a Principal in the Boston office of Fish & Richardson P.C. Her practice emphasizes patent prosecution, opinions, due diligence studies, and client counseling in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceutical chemistry, and the medical sciences. Dr. Fraser's projects have involved subject matter such as novel genes, antibodies, gene therapy, live cell vaccines, antisense, transgenic animals, proteomics, transcription factors, cell culture, tumor suppressor genes, oncogenes, cancer diagnostics, cDNA libraries, steroid biochemistry, and potential treatments for such conditions as cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, pulmonary hypertension, diabetes, obesity, arteriosclerosis, viral infection, cystic fibrosis, asthma, autoimmune disease, and AIDS. She has prior experience as a science writer (1977-1982). Dr. Fraser graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University (B.S., Chemistry, 1971, with highest distinction), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Ph.D., Biochemistry, 1976), and from Harvard Law School (J.D., 1985). She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and admitted to the bar in Massachusetts. Her Ph.D. thesis was entitled "In Vitro HeLa DNA Synthesis: Investigation of the Nature of Replication and a Stimulatory Factor from HeLa Cells." She is a Visiting Professor at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (2005-present) and in March 2005 was named as one of "The Top 10 Lawyers" by Women's Business Boston. She is a member of the Director’s Council for MIT’s Center for Cancer Research.
