Howard Rockman is a Chicago patent attorney. He counsels companies on a variety of intellectual property matters, focusing his practice on patent law. Howard began his legal career as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office before moving into his role as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division and Patent Litigation Section of Civil Division. For more than 35 years, Howard has been representing clients in litigation of patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret cases in federal and state court.
A frequent speaker, Howard has also published books and several articles on intellectual property issues. His experience includes lecturing and giving tutorials on patent law to engineers at companies, as well as to professional engineering societies. In addition to his law practice, Howard acts as an Adjunct Professor in Engineering Law and Intellectual Property Law for Engineers at the University of Illinois Chicago, and as Adjunct Professor for Patent Law Practice at The John Marshall Law School.
Howard received his J.D. (1963, with honors) from George Washington University Law School and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (1959) from Drexel University. He is admitted to the bar in Illinois and Maryland and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
